National Park
The Los Alerces National Park, located a few kilometers from La Pilarica, declared a World Heritage Site, was established in 1937 to protect the largest concentration of ancient Alerce trees (Fitzroya cupressoides) in Argentina. These trees, globally threatened, are the second longest-lived species in the world and are endemic to South America. The Alerces in the park are between 1,000 and 3,000 years old.
